Utilise is a social enterprise operated from Fearon Hall in partnership between
Fearon Community Association, Loughborough University Enactus and Transition Loughborough.
We plan to bring the community together, help those in need and reduce food waste!
Each week we divert perfectly edible food from landfill for our volunteers to cook up delicious, hearty and vegetarian meals for the local community.
Our social brunch is catered entirely by using the perfectly good ‘waste’ food thrown away by commercial giants. This allows us to encourage the reduction of food waste in everyday households. This also means that the menu for every café we run is dependent on the food we have available to us on that morning so it’s always something new and different.
Did you know that a total of 15 million tonnes of food is wasted in the UK every year? This is enough to fill Wembley Stadium a shocking 9 times! A third of the toal food grown by farmers across the world is wasted and this produces methane gases which are much more harmful to our beautiful planet than CO2.
Everyone is welcome and we operate on a minimum donation basis. This ensures that all those who need a hot meal have access to one. You pay as much as you can afford, or feel the meal is worth. You can even pay forward for those less fortunate.
Utilise is a non-profit enterprise and donations are very important. All donations are re-invested back into the project allowing the café to thrive and grow.
So why not come and enjoy our Utilise experience, do you bit for food waste and don’t forget to spread the word.
