Activities and Bookings Manager
Outdoor games and homegrown goodies have been the order of the day over these past summer months at the Hall. It’s been hard work but great fun developing our green spaces this season. Making them available for community activities and getting our own growing going in the garden. Here’s just a few of our highlights…
Swap Drop
We now grow our own vegetables and flowers which are either used in our café or given away to the community on our Swap & Drop Barrow. We have turned damsons into compote to be used with overnight oats, we have boiled our beans and cabbage and served it at lunchtime from our café. We have accepted donations each week from individuals (one sent 70 tomato plants from East Yorkshire), allotment holders and from groups such as Loughborough Lions, Transition and the University. These donations have kept our barrow looking stocked from May to October this year and we hope to continue into 2022.
Giant Sunflower Competition
At the start of the season we gave away 600 giant sunflower seeds to families with young children. We started a competition for the tallest sunflower and a winner was chosen in August from all the photographs we received in our closed Facebook group.
Games on the Green
We ran some activities in the summer holidays for young people. We had help from the Loughborough University Action Students who were amazing and took the lead with some wonderful games and activities for the children. As the 2020 Olympics happened in the summer of 2021 we themed our outdoor crafts and sports around the Olympics. The children made Olympic torches out of waste paper, they painted gold medals and took part in numerous races and games. Attendance was high, and we received lots of positive feedback from the parents and children.
There’s never a dull moment at the Hall and we’re always developing new schemes or looking for ideas from you, our community. So if you have any thoughts of what you’d like to see happening at the Hall in the coming Autumn then please get in touch. In the meantime keep up to date with what’s going on via our What’s On page or follow us on Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram.
Bye for now.
