The internet has become increasingly important in our lives especially during the Coronavirus pandemic, it has many benefits including communication with people from all over the world including our friends and family. However, the divide between those who have access to the internet to those who don’t is widening meaning there are still lots of people who don’t have the skills or equipment to be able to connect.
We know that there are many people in our community who haven’t seen their families for months during 2020, and are not likely to see them over the Christmas period due to local tier systems, lockdowns, not being a part of family bubbles or just simply how many miles away they are.
People may not have seen how much their grandchildren have grown, they may not have seen new babies, not seen if their friends are looking well. Talking on the telephone does not replace face to face conversation and the Covid vaccine will not arrive in time for us all to party in person over the Christmas period.
In December, Fearon Hall would like to use our equipment and skills to help people without equipment or broadband to connect face to face and be able to blow kisses to their family and friends.
Maybe just for one day grandad can see his grandchild open their advent calendar or a child can show grandma a drawing that they have been working on, maybe mum can move the camera around to show their Christmas decorations, whatever it is then it will be special to all the people involved and if the person accessing this service from Fearon Hall needs support when the call is over we will be there to support them.
Are you a Loughborough resident (do you know a Loughborough resident) with no internet at home, let Fearon Hall help you to see and chat to your family or friends in December. You do not have to worry, we will do everything, all you have to do is come to Fearon Hall, sit in front of our TV, and your family/friends will appear so that you can talk to each other. There is some set up needed so speak to Dawn at Fearon Hall to book a slot and she will tell you more about how it will work.
It doesn’t matter where your family or friends live in the world as long as they have access to the internet and they can be available at a set time to join you for a chat, Fearon Hall will do the rest.
Please share this message to anyone who would benefit from our help. All they need to do is tell us tell us how to connect with one member of their family so that we can make all the arrangements for a set time in the coming weeks. When the virtual meeting is arranged we will set up the meeting and leave the family/friends to chat for one hour, in a private room at Fearon Hall, we will provide tea or coffee and everything will be covid secure.
We are doing this free of charge, we just want people to be able to connect, we are passionate about helping people especially the elderly who have never used a computer. Slots can be available when it suits families, we understand that people may have work commitments and can only connect in an evening or at weekends and will work around this to make sure everyone has a chance to see and speak to their family and friends if they want to in December.
So, get connected this December. Contact Dawn on 01509 230629 or pop in to the Hall to find out how.
