International Women’s Day Storytelling

Mar 31, 2026

As part of the International Women’s Day Celebrations, we were delighted to work with professional storyteller, Alison Mott, who ran storytelling workshops on the topic of “Give to Gain” assisted by our arts worker Harry Ludlam.

In the workshops women were encouraged to bring in an item which reminded them of when they were given something valuable – knowledge, skills, care, resources, and how they paid this gift forward. The women shared their stories of giving and gaining and made drawings of their objects.

Alison Mott gave her time and expertise to encourage the women to share such personal stories. Through the workshops and film, we heard stories of love, care, kinship, resilience and compassion.

The audio from these stories along with the drawings was made into a short film that was played at our International Women’s Day event on Monday 9th March 2026. Guests also enjoyed a guided meditation from Induben on the power of giving from Brahma Kumaris, plus Garba dancing and Asian snack food by Anand Mangal. This free event was made possible by the kind support of Equality Action and with the help of our wonderful volunteers on the day.

Anila Sisodia from Anand Mangal said “It was excellent and so lovely to see so many women from across the community come together for International Women’s Day.”

Big love and compliments to everyone involved – you should all be truly proud of yourselves.
